SHOULD WE DO A FIRST LOOK?

What is a first look?

The “first look” at your wedding refers to the moment that you and your spouse lay eyes on one another for the first time in your wedding attire. It is a relatively new practice; some even call it a "trend" but I don't see it going out of style any time soon.

So, what is the purpose of a first look?

Create A Relaxed Wedding Timeline

There are many perks of doing a first look on your wedding day. One of the most common reasons for a first look is to create a more relaxed timeline for photos and videos. If the bride and groom decide to do a first look, they will be able to do Bride and Groom portraits together before the ceremony even begins, which will save precious time for them to be able to enjoy their cocktail hour with guests. Without this first look, the bride and groom usually spend their entire cocktail hour posing for family photos and couple portraits. Some couples even do immediate family portraits before the ceremony, thanks to the first look.

Enjoy A Private Moment

Another great reason to do a first look with your partner is to be able to savor that precious moment and enjoy it privately. It can help you shake off some wedding jitters before everyone you know is watching you come down the aisle. If we are lucky, we will only marry once, therefore we will never get to see our partner for the first time on our wedding day again. It is totally up to you whether you’d like to share that moment with others.

Read Your Vows Before The Ceremony

I think it’s safe to say that most of us would love to share personal vows with our spouses on our wedding day, but the idea of everyone hearing them can be quite intimidating. Many couples choose to read their own written vows before the ceremony after they have done their “first look”. Yet another perk of having a first look.
